Albany Devils: (9-11-0-0, 18 points, 6th place East Division)
December 1, 2010: Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins (Top AHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins). It’s only December but the “March of the Penguins” continues. The baby Pens roll into Albany Wednesday night, still boasting an AHL leading 17 wins and 34 points. In their prior two meetings the Pens have bested the Devils at home and away, each time by three goals.
December 3, 2010: Hershey Bears (Top AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals). The defending Calder Cup Champion Hershey Bears come to town for their first ever meeting with the Albany Devils. This marks Hershey’s first trip back to the Capital District since last year’s East Division Finals in a Game Four series clinching OT win over the Albany River Rats. Also making their returns to Albany will be former Rats defenseman Sheldon Souray and captain Keith Aucoin. The Bears sport a record of 12-9-0-1, fourth in the East Division standings.
December 4, 2010: @ Rochester Americans (Top AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers). The Devils and Amerks have split their two meetings this year, each winning in the others barn. After leading 4-3 in their initial meeting in Albany, Rochester came back strong to win 6-4. Their most recent tilt in Rochester saw the Devils and Jeff Frazee blank the Amerks 4-0, with Michael Swift chipping in two goals. The Thruway Cup rival Amerks stand at 9-12-1-0, which is seventh in the Western Conference’s North Division. No confirmation yet as to whether the game will be shown locally on Time Warner Cable 1.
December 5, 2010: Adirondack Phantoms (Top AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers). @ Atlantic City. From the Northway to the Parkway, this marks the first of four “home games” for the Devils in AC. Both clubs also sparred and split their two bouts this season back in October. The Phantoms won opening night in Albany 5-3, with the Devils taking the next contest up in Glens Falls 5-4. The Phantoms come in with an AHL worst 3-18-2-0, eighth in the East Division. Former River Rats Michael Ryan and Michael Leighton should be suiting up for the Phantoms this weekend. No confirmation if this one will be televised either.
Adirondack Phantoms: (3-18-2-0, 8 points, 8th place East Division)
December 4, 2010: @ Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins (Top AHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins). This marks the second trip this season for the Phantoms to Wilkes Barre Scranton, their last a 2-1 loss to the Pens after jumping out to an early 1-0 lead on a Zac Rinaldo goal less than a minute into the contest. Their last meeting in Glens Falls resulted in a 4-1 Penguins victory. This match-up pits the AHL’s best and worst teams point wise, though the Phantoms should have Michael Leighton between the pipes if that’s any consolation.
December 5, 2010: Albany Devils (Top AHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils). @ Atlantic City. As documented above, the two I-87 rivals have split in each others barn this season. Adirondack has played Albany tough this season, spoiling their season opener and nearly blowing them out of the water with three first period goals, before Albany came roaring back to win 4-3 in OT. However, by virtue of that OT loss, Adirondack still leads Albany 3-2 in points on the young season series.
