Albany Devils: (11-16-0-0, 22 points, 6th place East Division)
December 17 & 18, 2010: @Norfolk Admirals (Top AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning). Your Albany Devils head down south (as Jon Scherzer would say to, “Nawfolk Vuginya”) for a two game set this Friday and Saturday against their East Division rivals the Norfolk Admirals. The Admirals and former four-year Albany River Rats forward and favorite Mike Angelidis check in with a mark of 17-6-4-1 (39 points) good enough for second place in the East Division, just three in back of the leading Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins. Angelidis with nine goals and nine assists on the season leads all Admirals forwards with a +14 rating.
In their two meetings on the season in Albany the Devils are 0-2 against Norfolk. In their first contest back in October the Devils overcame a two-goal deficit on the strength of two second period scores from Nathan Perkovich and Brad Mills. However Paul Szczechura netted the winner late in the third as Norfolk skated away with the 3-2 win.
Their second meeting in November saw the Admirals jump out to a commanding 4-0 lead in the first. Albany would storm back, aided by two Matt Anderson goals to get within 4-3 in the second. But Norfolk would strike back for two more insurance goals to take that one by a 6-3 final.
Devils Details: While they couldn’t fill in the holes on the Boardwalk ice, Albany will look to shore up the lineup despite the call-ups of Harry Young, Dan Kelly and Tim Sestito they have Alexander Vasyunov and Matt Corrente on back loan from New Jersey. In five games with Albany Vasyunov has one assist, while Corrente whose lone game in an Albany jersey came in the opener has five PIM. Currently the Albany Devils trail the Connecticut Whale by eight points in the race for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
