In this edition of Rinkside Rewind, we take in the action from Pittsburgh between the Florida Panthers and the Penguins. Pens Captain Sidney Crosby extended his scoring streak to 22 straight games with his 28th goal as Pittsburgh rolled to a 5-2 triumph over the Panthers.
The lone bright spot for Florida, if one can have a bright spot in a 5-2 loss, was former Albany River Rats netminder Scott Clemmensen who made stops on 18 of 19 shots he faced in relief of Tomas Vokun. Former Rat Mike Rupp also got into a scrap for the Pens.
In Monday’s action the Buffalo Sabres were carried by two Tyler Ennis goals and 21 saves by Ryan Miller as they dominated the Anaheim Ducks 5-2.
Belted on the Beltway were the New Jersey Devils as the Washington Capitals posted five goals on Marty Brodeur for the 5-1 win. Former Albany River Rat Patrik Elias scored his seventh goal of the season as the lone bright spot for the Devils, ex-Rat Travis Zajac also assisted on the goal.
Deep in the heart of Texas, former Albany River Rat Brian Gionta notched his 12th goal of the season, short-handed in the third. However it was too little too late for the Montreal Canadiens as they were crushed by the Dallas Stars 5-2.
Former Albany River Rat Brad Richardson scored his fifth goal of the year against his old team as the Los Angeles Kings blanked the Colorado Avalanche 5-0. Jonathan Quick picked up the shutout making 23 saves for the win.
