Empire State Cup Standings Games Ending January 2, 2011

There are five AHL clubs in New York State, the most of any state in the league.  Those five teams vying for the 2010-11 Empire State Cup are: Adirondack Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers), Albany Devils (New Jersey Devils), Binghamton Senators (Ottawa Senators), Rochester Americans (Florida Panthers) and Syracuse Crunch (Anaheim Ducks).  The records below indicate the head-to-head standings between the five thus far this season.

Most Recent Update: January 2, 2011 @ Albany: Syracuse Crunch 5 Albany Devils 3.  Trevor Smith technically had three goals but was credited with four as the Crunch held off the Devils 5-3.  @ Rochester: Adirondack Phantoms 3 Rochester Americans 2.  For the second straight night Rochester was burned by a couple of former Amerks.  With the Amerks up 2-0 in the third, Denis Hamel and Michael Ryan tied the game at 2-2 for the Phantoms.  Then Adirondack beat Rochester in the shootout 2-1 for the 3-2 victory.

Has anyone noticed how truly awful every New York State based AHL team is doing this season?

1.) 9-4-0-1 (19 points).

2.)8-4-0-2 (18 points).

3.) 7-7-0-0 (14 points).

4.) 6-6-1-0 (13 points).

5.)  4-10-0-1 (9 points).
