Rinkside Roundup

Rinkside Roundup debunks the notion of “East Coast Bias” beginning out west with the team from Western New York.  In San Jose it was an historic night for Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff as he became just the 16th bench boss in NHL history to win 500 games as the Sabres behind an impressive 36 saves by Ryan Miller, shutout the Sharks 3-0.

Goals by Luke Adam, Jochen Hecht and Tomas Vanek got it done for Buffalo.  As an aside former Albany River Rat Cody McCormick registered an assist for his tenth point on the season for Buffalo.

Their farm clubs played the night before in Albany, this time around it was the big clubs’ turn in New Jersey.  The end result was much of the same as well with the Philadelphia Flyers doubling up the New Jersey Devils 4-2.

Former Flyer Dainius Zubrus got the scoring going in the first with his fifth on a nice mid-air deflection to bounce the puck past Brian Boucher off a Anton Volchenkov shot.  Former Albany River Rat Patrik Elias added to his team leading 27th point with a secondary assist.

In the second Scott Hartnell scored as many goals for the Flyers as the Devils had shots, two.  Though the Devils were economical, another former River Rat David Clarkson netted his fifth goal on the season, once it was reviewed and verified.  It didn’t  get any better in the third as Danny Briere posted two goals himself as Philadelphia rolled to victory.

In Boston former Albany River Rat John Madden picked up his sixth assist as the Minnesota Wild topped the Bruins 3-1.

Other local NHL action saw Blake Comeau tally the lone Islanders goal as New York was downed by the Edmonton Oilers 2-1.
