Three goals and three wins in a row for the Albany Devils. A hard fought contest ended fittingly enough with a goal off the stick of Louis Robitaille. The 3-2 win over the Binghamton Senators also enables the Albany Devils to move up in the Empire State Cup standings.
Albany opened the scoring in the first when Jacob Josefson deflected a shot from Adam Henrique past the B-Sens keeper Mike Brodeur and was credited with his first goal of the season.
Not a minute into the second, Bingo squared things away as Erik Condra roofed the puck over goalie Mike McKenna’s left shoulder. Shortly thereafter the B-Sens jumped in front on a power-play goal by Derek Smith that beat McKenna glove side for the 2-1 advantage.
Then to bookend the period, Devils AHL All-Star Matt Anderson on the doorstep pounced on a loose puck off the stick of Henrique to tie the game at 2-2. The power-play tally for Anderson is number 14 on the season.
Finally in the third after getting smacked across the face on what should have been a blatant penalty, Louis Robitaille picked up the puck after it took a funny hop off the boards and slinged it into the Senators net and giving the Devils a lead they would never relinquish. The goal was Robitaille’s second and second winner of the year, the first coming in a 2-0 win in an Empire State Cup battle at Rochester.
Albany improves to 16-20-0-3 (35 points). Highlights of the game are below.
