Rinkside Roundup

In Rinkside Roundup, after trailing 3-0 heading into the third the New York Rangers got scores from Wojtek Wolski and Derek Stepan, yet still came up short against the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 at MSG.  Mike Richards 15th of the year on a bang-bang crossing pass from Claude Giroux proved to be the difference maker in the second with the Flyers shorthanded.  Philadelphia has now won six of seven overall and four straight contests against New York.

Former Albany River Rat John Madden capped off a 4-0 win for the Minnesota Wild over the Vancouver Canucks.  Madden’s sixth of the year came as he was parked in front of the net and put home a feed from Chuck Kobasew to light the lamp.  Anton Khudobin stopped all 32 shots sent his way to record the shutout for the Wild.

Two milestone goals by Teemu Selanne put the Anaheim Ducks up 3-0 and it would be all they would need to hold off the Edmonton Oilers 3-2.  Selanne’s 13th and 14th goals gave him career points 1,300 and 1,301.

Around the “A” Kyle Palmieri registered his tenth goal of th year and added a helper for Syracuse, however Denis Hamel and Ben Holmstrom both had two point nights as well for Adirondack as the Phantoms took care of the Crunch 5-2.

Former Albany River Rats Captain Tim Conboy picked up an assist for the Portland Pirates in their 4-1 win over the Springfield Falcons. 

One-time Albany River Rat and RPI Captain Kirk MacDonald notched a helper for the Providence Bruins in their 2-0 win over the Worcester Sharks. 

Former Albany River Rats defenseman Michael Vernace added two assists for the Norfolk Admirals as they doubled up the Charlotte Checkers 4-2.  Oscar Osala registered an assist on Charlotte’s first goal by Brett Sutter.  Meanwhile Brett Carson’s goal on the power-play was his first of the season and was assisted on by Bryan Rodney and Zac Dalpe.

With 20 saves on 24 shots ex-Rats and Phantoms netminder John Grahame posted a win for the Lake Erie Monsters as they held off the Rochester Americans 6-4.  Former Lowell Devils forward Ben Walter registered his 13th goal on the season.
